LIMA, Peru, May 9 (Reuters) - Peruvian companies can market and sell products online starting this week on this poor Andean nation's new government export Web site, a state export agency said on Thursday.

"The idea is to ... help companies achieve their international objectives," Luis Lopez, head of on-line commerce for PROMPEX export promotion agency, told reporters.

The $210,000 PROMPEX program, funded in part by the Andean Development Corp. (CAF), is launching www.perumarketplaces.com, which offers agricultural products like asparagus, cotton and wood, fishing products like tuna and fishmeal, chemicals and mining goods, along with textiles and handicrafts

So far, 60 companies have their goods on the site -- accessible in English and Spanish -- but PROMPEX is hoping to bring around 200 more on board this year.

PROMPEX hopes the program will reverse a recent downward slide for Peruvian exports, which fell 3.2 percent year-on-year in the first quarter to $1.54 billion.

Peruvian exports were $7.1 billion last year, up 1 percent from 2000. International sales from growing industries like textiles are seen as key for helping Latin America's seventh largest economy recover from a three-year downturn and hit this year's growth goal of 3.5 percent to 4.0 percent.

"With this site, (participating companies) should see at least 10 percent of their sales go to exports," PROMPEX President Juan Enrique Pendavis told reporters.

The Andean Development Corp. provided $100,000 for the project while companies contributed $60,000, Pendavis said. Those companies will be able to sell six products each on the site and obtain information about Net visitors.
