Sorry, but I disagree. Judge Jackson had it right when he wanted to see Microsoft broken up. By splitting the company into an OS company and an applications company, the ability to "bundle" new "features" into Windows would be gone. Both the OS company and the applications company would be forced to compete with other software companies, and there would be a much more level playing field for everyone.
Judge Kollar-Kotelly must order Microsoft to offer a stripped-down version of Windows. And she must put teeth into any settlement; the slap on the wrist that the DOJ caved into Microsoft on doesn't have any provision for real enforcement when Microsoft inevitably violates it.
Every time I see a BSOD; every time I have to clean up my system because another virus infected it (and of course, it is always before the anti-virus people release a new virus definition file to combat it); every time I have to restart my PC because nothing is working correctly--these are all injuries caused to me, the consumer, by Microsoft. I want to see some real changes in Microsoft's behavior and business practices. And I want better, bloat-free, more stable software that doesn't include a lot of crapware.
Please, Judge Kollar-Kotelly, are you listening? Break Microsoft up!
