With White House cybersecurity czar Richard Clarke set to kick off the RSA Conference 2002 with a keynote speech, you can expect that September 11 and the threats of terrorism will help set the tone for this annual security summit.
According to RSA's Area VP of Americas Marketing, Sandra Toms LePedris, Clarke was selected to present a keynote because "he's focused on protecting critical infrastructure."
Le Pedris says that privacy will also be a key issue at the show.
"Since 9/11, privacy issues have started to surface," says RSA's Area VP of Americas Marketing, Sandra Toms LePedris. "People were ready to give up all privacy rights in order to protect themselves."
She notes that other prominent themes of this year's show include securing wireless networks and devices, Web access management, and strategies for attaining ROI with security investments. Other sessions will explore architecting online business against threat; cryptography; and managing online identities.
There are more than 200 vendors attending, with some announcing or demonstrating security products:
- Postini will be introducing its Active EMS e-mail management system, which acts like a combination "virtual edge server" and e-mail firewall across e-mail installations. The product blocks hackers who try to send damaging e-mail to companies, giving IT managers a single view of real-time data and analysis of e-mail system activity.
- Absolute Software will be previewing two products--CompuTracePlus, a PC tracking and loss control service to help security departments monitor asset location, and AbsoluteTrack Secure Asset Tracking and Inventory Management.
- Akaba is announcing a Web vulnerability assessment service for internal network validation.
- Citadel Security will be announcing Hercules, a product that automatically remediates the vulnerabilities discovered by the leading scanning software tools.
- PoliVec will be showing Enforcer, which monitors and enforces corporate security policies in real time and reports events to network administrators.
