Major steps that will help the business mastermind enterprise portals, XRM efforts, and private Net markets as "integration efforts in disguise" include:
- focusing on delivering a consistent, cognitive interface to constituencies
- providing "background" integration, via enterprise application integration and inter-enterprise integration, to provide single data "channels" and a consistent schema to environments
- applying CRM principles to collaborating members of the PECS (partner, employee, customer, supplier) alliance, to help prioritize competing design points
- seeking integrator assistance, but providing (and demanding) clear endpoints and value goals
