It's been nearly a year since CNET Networks acquired John Rowell's directory of Linux distributions and other open-source software. We're proud to have brought this excellent site to our ZDNet audience during a time when open source became a key consideration for IT decision makers everywhere. It is with regret, therefore, that we announce the closure of AppWatch.com.

Today's economic climate compels us to narrow the scope of our Linux sites. We continue to believe, however, that open source is a tremendously positive force in the industry, yielding benefits for all types of users. ZDNet's newly launched Linux Update site integrates open source news, reviews, downloads, case studies, and analysis every day. Our editorial team is committed to satisfying the information needs of businesses that depend on Linux, and we will point users to the best sources for the distributions or software updates we cover.
