TransForce is a dedicated, real-time imaging server appliance that takes a single high-resolution image and repurposes it on the fly for each request, whether it be for a 75-by-75-pixel GIF thumbnail or a 200-by-200-pixel JPEG for a main catalog page. TransForce uses customizable rules signaled by globally configurable criteria based on URL names or the contents of a cookie.
Full Review
Saves time and resources that would be spent creating, storing, and managing static files of various sizes; Easy to set up; Easy to choose rules and incorporate them with URIs using your search and replace tools; Seems as fast as retrieving a static image; Nice division of responsibilitiesand manualsbetween MIS and end users; No scripting required.
Does not yet respond to congestion on Internet at large, but can respond to request load it receives; Takes slightly longer to create image first time, but administrators can stuff the cache with images likely to be sought first.

Scoring Methodology: We tested TransForce Image Server alongside an IIS-based Web site, using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 to work with the production interface. We created rules for presenting large image files in various sizes and formats, then modified URLs in existing Web pages and Web page templates to include rule-based virtual directories and file name suffixes that told TransForce what to deliver.
